THE SOCIOLOGICAL PERSPECTIVE

Dr. Md. Ahasun Habib Department of Sociology & Anthropology,

Abstract

Climate change is a kind of change within statistical distribution of weather patterns over periods ranging from decades to millions of years. This change could be observed in several climate related to incidents. For instance any kind of micro or macro change in the climate of any given area. It could be confined to any local area or could be widespread throughout the world. Policy related to environment of any country or the planet earth emphasizes on these kind of changes. Today climate change stands for the modern change also. But universally today it focuses mainly on the global warming, otherwise the true nature of change is still now impossible to comprehend. Yet we have a unanimous agreement on the losses of Bangladesh due to the global warming. It is due to its being a lower delta situated on the northern mouth of the Bay of Bengal. This is the delta where prime rivers the Ganges, the Jamuna and the Brahmaputra meet. Moreover this delta is overwhelmed by dense population. Its economy is agriculture oriented and depends almost on the nature only .So we can easily assume that its economy is quite related to the level of the see and henceforth to climate change. In this article I will try to explain the negative impacts of climate change on Bangladesh and possible ways to tackle them. I will also focus on the adaptation policy related to infrastructures and economic activities. In the initial stage some of the problems are well detected, such as a siltation of the riverbeds, rising of the sea level, coastal storms and floods. We have to assess their negative effects in term of economic and social detriments. I hope that this article will prove fruitful to the policy makers concerned with the environment of the country. This will work as a guiding manual for them and as the basis of more advanced research in the field. This will help the environmentalists of Bangladesh to realize their plans. It is needless to say that climate change constitutes the main obstacle in the way of this countries economic development. So she has to face the challenges and find ways to tackle them and thus pave the way to the sustainable economic development.
